One of the most relevant rhythms from Brazil, the famous SAMBA is one of a kind. Its history has evolved into many types and forms - from the fast-paced drum orchestras - carnivals and street parades - to the gentle and sensuous samba-canção, which later gave way to the emerging "Bossa Nova", an equally distinctive and world-famous Brazilian music style.

Originating as a result of African and Brazilian musical style blend, Samba set its roots in the History from Colonial Period, upon the arrival of African slaves to work in Brazil. The word "samba" comes from Banto, an African language spoken in Angola. In fact there are two versions to its origin:

It can be a junction of the verbs sam (to pay) and ba (to receive) or else, it derives from the term semba, a dance from the old slave costumes in which two participants struck into each other, bumping navel against navel.

Samba is one of the most popular genres in Brazil and has become, over the years, a national identity. Great musicians and composers were responsible for popularizing this rhythm, such as Noel Rosa, João da Baiana, Cartola, Zeca Pagodinho and Arlindo Cruz. All over the world samba is recognized and valued as a Brazilian symbol, as well as football.

It was in 1917 that the very first samba recording came out publicly. The lyrics of "PeloTelefone", which means "On the phone" soon caught the attention and became an unexpected success, creating a bridge that effectively brought the music outside of the black community. The song was released by Donga and Mauro Almeida. Rumors say that the authorship of "PeloTelefone" was a big issue among the group of artists that used to perform together at Aunt Ciata’s home, located close to "PraçaOnze", one of the birthplaces related to Samba in Rio de Janeiro.
