Things to Keep in Mind while Selecting a Home Care Agency for Live-in Care Services
Posted: Dec 02, 2016
The primary reason for seniors (and their family) to look for live-in care services is to extend independent living for as long as possible. If your loved one doesn't suffer from any major medical problems and only looking for an aide to provide help with the activities of daily living, then in-home senior care will be a far better option than an assisted facility. There are certain important points, however, that must be scrutinized before hiring a care agency as discussed below.
Compatibility
No matter what type of care is provided (respite care, transitioning home care, Alzheimer's care, etc.), compatibility between the care recipient and caregiver is important. In the case of live-in care, this becomes even more important because they also have to live together. Hence, good in-home care agencies make sure that the likes, dislikes, and interests of the caregiver match with those of the care recipient. This proves to be quite helpful in creating a strong bond between the two.
Background & Reference Checks
You don't want your loved one to be staying alone with someone who has been charged with a criminal or severe civil offense. This makes background checks on caregivers necessary. Personal and professional references are also quite important to gauge efficiency and integrity of the caregivers. All the caregivers of Comfort Keepers working in Essex, Bergen, and other counties of New Jersey, go through extensive background and reference checks to ensure safety of the clients.
It's also important to ensure that all the legal compliance that arise from the employer-employee relationship (insurance, taxes, etc.) are handled by the care agency so that you're free from these problems.
It's NOT Same as 24-hour Care
You might think that because a caregiver is present in the client's house in the day as well as in the night, live-in care services would be same as 24-hour care; however, there are some differences between the two. In live-in care, a caregiver is present in the client's house 24/7, but it's assumed (in fact, must be categorically stated) that the caregiver will be allowed to have around 8-hour sleep in the night; hence, will not be available during this time (can help the care recipient at night in case of urgent need, though).
In 24-hour care, however, a caregiver must be available in the night as well. Due to this reason, often, two caregivers take 12-hour shifts to make sure that the care recipient is always attended. The cost of these two care types is also quite different.
Our live-in home caregivers provide personal care services that help the clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, hygiene, mobility assistance, transferring & positioning, toilet assistance, incontinence care, etc. For more information, Please Visit here
