How to Boost Your Website Ranking in Multiple locations

Posted: Dec 05, 2016
Over the progress of my career, I have worked with many medium and large businesses across the United States. Today, I’m going to share with you a few of the things I learned about optimization, both onsite and offsite, when it comes to multiple locations.
First, a Few Reasons Why Local SEO Matters:
- Google (and other search engines) factor in location data when displaying search results.
- People tend to add cities/states/regions when searching for businesses on the web.
- Consumers are starting to trust small, local businesses over larger, well-known brands
Single Domain VS many
Managing different websites can be a time-consuming process. All the time when I have a client who wants to rank higher in multiple cities. Should I purchase a separate domain for each country in which I want to rank or can I rank using just my existing domain? My answer is always, stick with just one domain.
Your site structure plays vital part in optimization for multiple locations
Each of your places should contain unique content to that location. Here is how it would look from a site architecture standpoint if we were an electrician trying to rank in multiple cities:
/
/locations
/locations/city-state-electrician
/locations/city-state-electrician/service1
/locations/city-state-electrician/service2
/locations/city-state-electrician/service3
/locations/city-state-electrician/service3
/locations/city-state-electrician/contact
Make sure your location pages are properly optimized
To optimize your location page confirm that the city/state name, H1’s & ALT tags are placed on your title tags additionally on your page. Remember duplicate content is unhealthy for the web, so try to make sure you have at least 500 words of distinctive content on your location pages.
Have a separate and optimized GMB page for each location
Mobile searches increasing at a rapid pace, ranking in Google maps as it is sometimes referred to as more important, especially with the increase in a number of sponsored ads on Google. Organic listings are being pushed down that’s why maps are the most valuable tools on the search results page.
Elements to an optimized Google My Business Page
Business Name – Make sure this is your correct business name. Some businesses try to add keywords to their business name to rank higher in maps. This is a HUGE NO-NO! Doing this can cause your listing to get removed completely.
- Address – Be sure your address matches the address on the website, exactly. Sometimes Google will change certain elements of the address (like changing Boulevard to Blvd), if this happens, change the address to match the address as it appears on your Google My Business Listing.
Category – You can add up to 5 services. Choose the ones that are the most relevant to your business.
- Business Hours – Be sure to fill this out carefully
- Photos – Try to add up to 10 photos. You can use pictures of the inside of your store, staff pictures, and so on.
- Introduction – Write unique content that is completely different than anything you currently have on your website. Be sure to list the services you offer and link those services to the proper services pages for each location.
Get reviews for each location
This may seem like an impossible task. My most successful clients asked their branch managers to get reviews for their locations to monitor their performance reviews each year was predicated on how well they are getting positive reviews across the web.
