A radiator is responsible for heat exchange in any engine system, be it in a vehicle or a freezer. It transfers thermal energy from one medium to another for effective cooling and heating operations. In automotive radiators, coolant is passed through an engine block to absorb the engine heat. The coolant is then fed into the inlet tank of the radiator. Here, the coolant cools down by dissipating the heat into the atmosphere through the fins installed in the radiator tubes. The radiator does not cool down the coolant temperature to normal, it makes it cool enough to re-absorb the heat and keep the engine temperature levels in control.

Many people take good care of their car radiators but they often forget to look after the radiator support. The radiator support is the bracket or assembly in which the radiator fits in. Radiator support often remains invisible under the radiator but it is something that cannot be ignored. A damaged or worn out radiator support can fall off anytime sometimes taking the radiator off as well. It can cause a severe accident and also damage several vital components of the engine.

A corroded radiator support can cause the radiator to bounce under the hood which is extremely dangerous. It not only provides support to the radiator but also keeps it attached to the side aprons, and the upper and lower rails of the engine assembly frame. In case your radiator support is worn out or corroded, it is better to replace it with a new one.

Radiators supports are vehicle specific and you cannot just install any type of radiator support for your car radiator. It also has to match the dimensions of side aprons and rails to properly fit in. You can choose from a wide range of radiator support available on the internet that is not only vehicle specific but also strong. Many manufacturers make radiators with strong support panels that are made with the top quality material and suit your vehicle type. To find them, you just have to go online and search for a specific radiator support according to your car radiator model and brand.

In case, you are replacing those all by yourself, you just have to follow some simple steps to get the job done. However, you have to see that the radiator support is not welded in. If that is the case then you would not be able to replace it by yourself and would require some need professional help. If it is not welded, you can go ahead with replacement procedure by following these steps.

  • Remove all the attached parts to gain access to the radiator support
  • Take out the radiator support bolts
  • Extract the old radiator support bracket
