The need for more Doctors and Doctor Jobs continues to be one of the most imperative needs of the Indian healthcare system due to the burgeoning population of India and the scarcity of doctors. However, some types of specialists are more in-demand than others.
Each year Hi Impact (which is Indias’ Largest recruiter of Doctors) consultants Pvt. Ltd. releases a report on the number and type of specialties it has been asked to fill. The report also throws light on the pay and incentives being offered in order to fill those job openings.
The report found Doctor Recruitment in India isn’t just a problem in rural areas anymore. Some 41% of the jobs the company was asked to fill were in small cities (Tier-II and Tier-III)
According to Hi Impact Consultants Pvt. Ltd. given below is the list of the Top 10 in-demand specialties/ Doctors Job in India
- General Medicine : General Medicine has been a consistent first -place finisher in Hi Impacts’ list.Total registered 50,000 qualified PG physicians registered with the Indian Medical Association.
- General Surgeon: General Medicine has been a consistent second place finisher in Hi Impacts’ list.Around 2 lacs, surgeons doctors are there in India and the demand is very huge.
- Paediatrics : The number of paediatricians practicing in the India is 50,000 paediatricians as per Indian Academy of Pediatrics. However, that’s not enough to meet demand. Hi Impact has seen a demand increase in each of the past 3 years.
- Anesthesia: Awesome growth in Anesthesia Specialty has been observed and it has secured fourth position in the Hi Impact’s List.
- Cardiology:When it comes to Super-Speciality cardio is the first in this category.Every year, graduate from Indian medical colleges produce about 27,000 doctors every year but,more than 75 per cent of Indian doctors are based in cities, whereas about 70 % of patients in the country are village-based.
- Oncology : Oncology is the new Cardiology in India.So,far India has a successful history in cardiology, but Oncology care is still finding its niche in Indian healthcare systems as India has 1.8 mn cancer patients, but only one oncologist to treat every 2,000.this way huge demand of oncologist has secured the sixth position.
- Urology: Urology which has Surprisingly gone up and secured its position amongst the top ten specialty recruited by Hi Impact Consultants
- Gynaecology: Gynaecology is at no.eight (with around 70,000 practising obstetrics/gynaecology doctors) this year in the Hi Impacts’ List.
- Neurology: According to the Hi Impacts’ data analytics team,demand for neurologists has been somewhat up and down in recent years, However, the specialty has remained in the Top 20 in-demand specialties for each of the past 20 years.
- Gastroenterology : due to huge demand and supply gap (Patient and doctors ratio) as there is one cardiologist for every 2.3 lacs people in the country, on the other had only one gastroenterologist for 6.4 lacs Indians.
This gap is huge/big and which is why all the providers(Hospitals/Medical Colleges are trying to have super-specialist like gastroenterology in their team and this way it (Gastroenterology) super-specialty has become top ten specialty in Doctors Recruitment in India
Due to huge demand and supply gap (doctor patient ratio, which is 1:1700) in India, it has been observed and noted by the research team of Hi Impact Consultants Pvt. Ltd. that the Top ten specialties which are most in-demand in India are all related to Lifestyle diseases and cancer and it will be continued till the time we don’t fix the basics of the health care system and medical education in India.
