Unique Paving Blocks Designs

There are countless of block paving designs you can use for your driveway, patio and walkway to create a contrast of style on the landscape to make it beautiful and unique. Few of the prominent designs are discussed in this article.

Designs and Pattern

1. Herringbone 45°

For this unique design, paving blocks are laid in 45° angle. The design is suited for driveways because of its ability to accommodate heavy loads and reduction of possible movement of the paving blocks used. Installers see this design as the most difficult of the block paving designs to correctly achieve because the paving blocks need to be carefully and moderately cut at each side of the driveway or patio when laid. J the wastes are difficult to match with other accurately cut paves since they will be more than the 45° needed and this increases the quantity of wastage. But the capability of its aesthetic enhancement can not be overlooked.

2. Herringbone 90°

Paving blocks are laid in 90° angle to each other for this design. This design makes the area appear larger. A string line or straight-edged timber rails are used to keep the design running straight, using half a block each time. This reduces wastage unlike herringbone 45° design, as the leftover (other halves) can also be perfectly used. This is the reason why installers consider this design as the easiest of the block Basket Weave/Color Mixing

Although this design can also be used for driveways, it is mainly used for areas with light foot traffic. It requires little to no cutting of the paving edges. It is an excellent design to use if a long straight edge to the driveway is available to lay the pattern on. Different colors of paving blocks can be used and combined to make the design look more attractive.

4. Stretcher Bond

This design is suitable for pathways to make it appear longer and wider. It is not suitable for heavy vehicle traffic areas as it doesn’t have strong load capacity. Two colors of paving blocks are also used to give the design a brilliant look. The side-by-side appearance of the design can be made longer or broader depending on the direction it is laid.
