Every year many students enter into the world of college education leaving behind their school life. Now the question arises that what is more important for a student; college or the course? Nobody is able to provide a satisfactory answer to this question because it is a subjective matter. Both have their pros and cons if you make either of them the deciding factor for your further education.

There is an army of students who consider course as the key factor while deciding about their higher studies. Such learners are of the opinion that course should be the top priority, not the college because course remains same in every college affiliated to a University. Further, different Universities too have more or less similar course design. For instance top B.com colleges in Jaipur India have indistinguishable syllabus and course structure.

This argument is valid and many students thus prepare their mind well in advance and decide the course they want to choose before entering into a college. Some choose conventional courses viz. Bachelors in History, Geography, Philosophy, English, etc. On the other hand, there are many who go for un-conventional ones like Fashion Designing, Hotel Management, Retailing, etc. The latter are more popular and categorised as ‘Professional Courses’ that are industry specific and are quite fruitful in fetching nice paying jobs.

Such a trend of choosing courses considering their job prospects is not just seen at under-graduate level but post-graduation as well. In India, there are top universities for MBA Jaipur, MCA, M. Tech, etc. that witness higher admission rates every year. One such renowned name is Poornima University of Jaipur. Professional courses though are costly to pursue but students and parents still bet their money on them considering the returns on investment of such programmes.

Moving further to the other argument we notice that there are many who advocate the importance of a college over course. Innumerable learners consider course selection as an afterthought and for them, college brand name is everything that they want. A renowned college is usually known for its highly qualified faculty, above average student’s performance in curricular as well as extra-curricular activities, student-faculty interaction, innumerable social responsibility programmes, etc. Also, such colleges have a long list of well established and famous names of people as their alumni. Consequently, students aspire to become a part of such educational institution that can offer them much more than a degree.

Whatever the case may be, but one thing that cannot be denied is that a student’s hard work, sincerity and dedication are the key factors in determining the future. Neither college nor course can be helpful in making a learner successful.
