Finalists Announced for Westlake Chamber of Commerce Awards

The Westlake Hills Chamber of Commerce in Westlake Hills, Texas has announced its finalists for the annual Westlake Hills Westie Awards, which honor the "best and brightest" members of this Austin-area city for their community and philanthropic endeavors and their economic impact. The finalists were announced at the annual holiday festival known as Wonderfest and include individuals, businesses, and organizations.

Amy King, Chance Covert, and Holly Mace Massingill are the three finalists for the Westlake 2016 Citizen of the Year award. This award is given to an individual who has given "time, energy, and heart to the community, sometimes unnoticed" and who is "an inspiration for others to follow," according to the Westlake Hills Chamber of Commerce.

Cate Gillham and Jamie Malone are finalists for the Westlake 2016 Young Citizen of the Year, which honors Westlake area high school students who demonstrate civic and community service contributions and who serve as leaders to their peers.

Barton Creek Elementary School Principal Bill Bechtol, St. Stephens Episcopal School Teacher Frank Mikan, and Forest Trail Elementary School Teacher Karen Linder are up for the spot of Westlake 2016 Educator of the Year. This Westie is for "outstanding contributions to the educational community" and to the enrichment of children’s lives through academic achievement.

Finalists for the Westlake 2016 1st Responder of the Year are the Rollingwood Police Department, STAR Flight (Shock Trauma Air Rescue,) and the Westlake Fire Department. The 1st Responder award exemplifies humanitarian values, including encouraging initiative and demonstrating courage and selflessness.

Pop-Up Birthday, SCORE, and Westlake Rotary are the finalists for the Westlake 2016 Non-Profit of the Year, which awards a Westlake area organization that has "shown exemplary service to the community, provided opportunity, goods, or services to those in need, and/or brought the community together to selflessly serve the common good."

For Westlake 2016 New Business of the Year, the two finalists are Serasana Austin and Smoothie King. The New Business Westie is for a new Westlake area business that has created jobs and revenue, provided innovative products or services and exemplary customer service, and demonstrated economic support or service to the community.

Finalists for the Westlake Business of the Year for 2016 are Hat Creek Burger Company, Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, and Trianon Coffee. The Business of the Year Westie is awarded to a Westlake area business that is successful, thriving, and supportive of the Westlake community.

The Westlake Hills Westie Awards will be announced February 3, 2017 at the Hotel Granduca.
