In less than a year, mobile usage percentage have skyrocketed for over 50%. In America alone, it was reported that in 2014, mobile users only are far more than desktop users only. Despite this significant Increase in mobile internet usage, a lot of businesses still doesn’t have a mobile-friendly website. In this article, we are to discuss why a business site needs not just a mobile-friendly design, but a responsive one.
What is responsive design? And how is it different from mobile-friendly?
A mobile design or template is a stand alone site. It is separate from your main website and has a different subdomain. A mobile site has templates built per site, not per screen size, so issues may arise if a user uses a different device such as a tablet or a phone with a wider screen.
Responsive design, however, is more flexible. It requires that a site be coded to adjust to all screen sizes, so it doesn’t really matter what device is used. So if you haven’t changed your web design to a responsive one, here are reasons why you need to:
Google recommended- Whatever Google says, we have to listen. There is no dispute about this, since Google is the leading search engine, their algorithms and recommendations matter most. Responsive design is Google’s recommended design pattern. Mobile searches are now dominant over searches made from a desktop or laptop. In fact, 25% of internet users in the United States only access the internet from their mobile device. Shopping online has also become the new trend, along with reservations and bookings to local restaurants and hotels.
Single design, multiple devices- Of course, we all want our website to look good and to give a positive user experience no matter the device or the size of the screen, right? Then responsive design is what we need. Tablets, phablets, and smartphones of different sizes. Not only that, we must look into other devices that may be used for internet viewing such as smart watches, smart TV, and Google Glass.
Easier to Manage- Whether you are the king or the queen of multitasking, who would pass on the opportunity to work less? In a responsive designed website, you will maintain and manage only one website- no main and mobile sites. Less cost, less work, increased ROI, and more time to spend on other tasks such as blogging, social media, or brainstorming for other marketing strategies. Now, who wouldn’t want that?!
The future- With a responsive website, you can stay ahead of competition. Social media, games, and apps are steadily on the rise, mobile companies are innovating new products and developing existing ones, internet providers are continuously revolutionizing their services.
