Microwave ovens offer the easiest and fastest way to cook food. It fits for all the situations, be it the morning office rush, a quick evening snack for the kids or just a rushed meal the microwave fixes the deal. The only thing one needs to do is set the timer and press the button to have a piping hot meal in minutes. There are a variety of cooking techniques available but the microwaves cook the fastest, with the benefit of retaining the original flavor of the ingredients and their aroma. This medium also allows for oil free cooking and thus providing healthy cooking with the maintenance of the ideal nutritional balance. Similar to microwaves, OTGs are also a cooking appliance and they might seem the one and the same thing to many. Although, there are quite few fundamental differences between OTGs and the microwaves. Let us look at some of the differences:

Within an OTG the heating elements are present on the bottom as well as the ceiling of the oven. This allows you to choose between using one or either for cooking purposes. For example, for normal baking the oven uses both the coils which are heated up, and for grilling, only the top coil is heated and used by the oven. The oven can be used to keep food warm, reheat, barbeque, bake and grill food items. Thus, it allows for baking crisp cookies, birthday cakes, muffins and much more and can be easily termed at a baker’s delight. Although, the ovens are not very popular for the speed at which they cook, they are quite a choice for tasteful food.

Correspondingly, a steel box containing a magnetron which generates microwaves is called a microwave oven. With the microwaves generated by the magnetron, the water molecules in the food get heated up and in the process food gets cooked.

When purchasing a microwave it is important that you know the various types of microwaves available so that you can make your choice and select the one that suits your needs. Let us look at three broad categories of microwaves: namely: Solo, Grill and Convection.

The solo microwave has a solitary function and is primarily used for boiling, defrosting and heating food. These function on a simple mechanism in which the food is blasted with microwaves produced from the magnetron. Thus it functions on a simple format, the baking and roasting operations are not possible in this category of microwaves. Because of the simplicity of operation and mechanism, these form the most basic types of oven and come the cheapest. Additionally, because of the low price, they also attract the entry of first time users in the microwave segment.

The second category of the microwaves is the grill which in majority of manufacturer’s products has integrated quartz bulb or coils which are the heating elements. These coils are placed usually at the bottom and top of the grill microwave. A grill microwave allows you to crisp up your food especially the jacket potatoes!

The third category of microwaves are the convections as they provide all the possible functions of the microwaves combined in one machine. Thus its versatility makes it a very popular choice with both heating elements and magnetron integrated in the box. In addition to these elements structurally the convection also has a small fan. This model not only allows for regulation of the amount of heat transferred but also the way it is radiated.
