SanDisk, along with its parent company – Western Digital Corporation – has recently launched the world’s first 1 Terabyte (TB) SD card. The company has always tried to pioneer and be the leader in terms of technological advancement and innovation. As we say the history repeats itself; SanDisk has also repeated its own history of striking a milestone in its successful journey. The company had introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SD™ card sixteen years ago and today it has stretched its capabilities to offer an SD Card with 1TB capacity.

SanDisk, as a brand, is synonymous to quality and trust. Its innovative flash storage products have given a new lease of development and progress to the global electronics industry. The company’s state-of-the-art apparatus and solutions act as stimuli to the world’s largest data centers and are in-built in latest smartphones, tablets and computers. Having its consumer products available at numerous retail stores worldwide, SanDisk is a household name when it comes to digital memory solutions.

Higher capacity cards are need of the hour owing to the increasing demand for high resolution content. They are a boon to the industry as they boost the level of performance for professional videographers and photographers, giving them wider scope to create more of the highest quality content, without the disruption of changing cards. This sort of a remarkable invention and innovation will definitely accelerate the growth of data-intensive production demands exponentially and hence set the pace for the imaging industry. industries like virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video are also burgeoning at an unbelievable pace; presence of 1 TB SD Card will definitely support their achievements to a great extent.

"Just a few short years ago the idea of a 1TB capacity point in an SD card seemed so futuristic – it’s amazing that we’re now at the point where it’s becoming a reality. With the growing demand for applications like VR, we can certainly use 1TB when we’re out shooting continuous high-quality video. High-capacity cards allow us to capture more without interruption, streamlining our workflow, and eliminating the worry that we may miss a moment because we have to stop to swap out cards," said Sam Nicholson, CEO of Stargate Studios and member of the American Society of Cinematographers.

This level of storage is also becoming inevitable with flagship cameras from the giants like Canon, Sony, Nikon and Fujifilm – most of them featuring 50MP sensors. Talking of innovative technologies - Canon showed off a 120MP DSLR back in 2015 that captures RAW files of 210 megabytes (MB) each. This 1TB SD card can store over 4,700 of such humongous files! So this SD Card is definitely a boon to the industry.

However, there is still no news on how much will the card cost and when exactly will it hit the markets.
