In the past heating with wooden pallets was a common thing. However, with each passing year wood pallets is no longer just a stove thing. It is now being used to heat the home as well as business places too.

Wood pellet boiler can be used in almost all the homes either as a primary source of heat in conjunction with a secondary boiler which is kept for a backup, or it can act as a stand-alone heat source or in some cases, it can act as a supplementary heat source. Pellet boilers are mostly suitable for those who are interested in lessening their environmental impact and interested in saving money. Before planning to invest in wood pellet there are few fundamental things that you should know about it:

  • Cost effective: The essential thing about wood gasification boiler that one should know before investing in it is that it helps business owners lower their heating costs. Alternative to wood pellets such as propane and heating oil are more volatile both literally as well as in terms of cost per unit of energy. Also, families enjoy the same level of comfort from wood pellets as they do from the traditional fossil-fueled heat source. As per some conservative estimates, when an investment in pellet boiler is made it can provide a return on investment as high as 49% than the traditional fossil-fueled heat source.
  • Convenient: Wood pellet boilers are not only readily available it is not at all bulky, burns cleaner and is much more convenient than firewood. It also helps in sustaining the regional economy where you live.
  • Better ecological impacts: When using wood pellets, it becomes a sustainable solution that is better for the ecosystem. It is much better than non-renewable fuels such as natural gas, propane, electric power and also gas.
  • Regular maintenance: There are some wood pellet boilers that needs to have the heat exchanger brushed clean every other week during the heating season so as to maintain the best efficiency. Most of the manufacturers are trying to automate the process, though. Also since wood pellets needs to be loaded almost every week if not delivered in bulk it becomes a little less convenient than gas and oil. The ash bins also need to be emptied as the wood ash consist of naturally occurring minerals and it can be used to spread in gardens, lawns and the woods.
  • Automated: Most of the wood pellets are fully automatic systems that incorporate several automatic features such as automated burn chamber, ash removal and cleaning. The heat transfer surface cleaning is also automated. The ash removal system is fully automated with integrated ash collection box to minimize required maintenance. The advanced thermo control and firing rate modulation allow the boiler to fire down up to almost 30% of its rated output and thereby eliminating the need for costly buffer tanks.

Though it has its share of advantages and disadvantages many people have started using Wood Pellet Boilers and it is a good choice for baseboard, radiant, hydro-air heating systems and forced air.
