Thanks to the Electrical Cables that have made the world around us bright and worth living in. Had there been no cables, the world around may not have been the same as it seems to be today. There are different types of Electrical Cables available for varied applications and having an idea about these types will surely help you to make the right selection as per specific requirements. The next section will brief you on the same.

Types Of Electrical Cables:

Coaxial Cables

They have an inner conductor that is surrounded by tabular insulating layer and this is further shielded by tabular conducting shield. They are used for carrying low frequency signals like audio signals. They are used as a transmission line for radio frequency signals. These cables protect the signal from external electromagnetic interference.

Shielded Cables

These cables have one or more insulated conductors enclosed by a conductive layer in common. The shield is usually made of braided strands of copper or aluminum. This shield is used to reduce the electrical noise from affecting the signals. Shielded cables find applications in security systems mainly.

Twisted Pair Cables

These types of cables have two conductors of a single circuit that is twisted together to remove electromagnetic interference from external sources. They are thin and flexible and find application in telephone lines. They can be easily strung between the walls.

PVC Cables

They have exceptional flexibility and high tensile strength. They are also highly conductive and can be easily joined. They are ideal for house wiring and also for power supply in offices.

Polyvinyl Chloride Cables

They are abbreviated as PVC Cables. They are cheap and have high chemical resistance. They find a wide range of applications such as home wiring, ship wiring, and for power supply in factories, submarines, etc. They have high tensile strength, are flexible and can be joined easily.

Optical Fiber Cables

They are made of two or more optical fibers and are coated with plastic layers. They have a wide range of applications in health care sector for lasers used in surgery, in defense, for aircraft and submarine wiring, for telecommunication etc.

Direct-Buried Cables

These cables are specially designed to be buried under the ground, without requiring protection with extra piping, covering or sheathing.
