The growth of technology has brought many changes in medicine, especially in treating eye strain. Such development has brought immense changes in treating patients.

The eye care professionals are categorized into three types and they are opticians, ophthalmologists and optometrists. The optometrists and ophthalmologists are involved in examining health of the eyes and in diagnosing to treat the diseases using appropriate medicines. Whereas, opticians are trained to fill prescriptions for the eyeglasses and further determine the right frame for eyeglass and adjust it to fit in properly.

Optometrist is the doctor of Optometry and it should not be confused with M.D, doctor of Medicine. The one who desires to become the professional must complete any pre-professional undergraduate education which is followed by 4 years of optometry professional education. In the school for Optometric, the students will reduce primary education about eyes and will not get any comprehensive education regarding other systemic disease processes. The graduate must become eligible to get licensed by the State to practice as an optometrist. Some professionals will also continue to do postgraduate with specialized subjects such as for low vision rehabilitation, geriatric optometry, primary eye care, family eye care, sport vision, vision therapy, paediatric optometry and contact lenses. He can also prescribe contact lenses and eyeglasses. They can determine any problems related to vision.

These professionals’ help in treating eye strain which is a common condition found in most of the humans. Eye strain which is also known as eye fatigue includes various symptoms such as, eye burning, itching and tiredness in the eyes. This is said to be a rare serious condition, however precautions taken at home with common sense can help you to prevent such symptoms and reduce eye fatigue. However, eye strain is sometimes the sign of underlying condition which needs medical treatment. If this condition persists, it is recommendable to consult a doctor, rather than trying to take simple precautions.

Moreover, it is very important to consult the doctor immediately if the strain is associated with eye problem or headaches, which comes with symptoms such as, double vision, discomfort and any significant change in the vision. The common causes of eye strain are, staring at digital devices for long time such as computer screen, video games, Smartphone and other devices. As an effective tip for treating eye fatigue due to over exposure to computer screen, you can try 20-20-20 rules, which is once in every 20 minutes, try to look a distance about 20 ft for 20 seconds.
