4 Modern Rules You Should Mind at the Dinner Table
Posted: Mar 14, 2014
Food is a just a cereal for some while it may be a ray of hope for the others. For the ones standing out of the crowd, food is called gastronomy. Although it may seem a term too scientific, it holds great reverence among people who adore culinary skills above all of their known skills – and hardly do they identify their other skills as they cannot think anything above food. However, with the world refining to the tune of perfection (exaggerated), dining etiquettes have become a norm for the untold world of sophistication. So let’s begin with the basics.
Definition of Gastronomy (ga-stron-uh-mee)
As the online lexicons describe it, the term means a) the art and science of good eating and b) the style of cooking or eating.
Deciphering the words, what we are going to consider is ‘the style o eating’. Dining etiquettes is a vast term as it comprises a lot of decent behavior at the table. As a matter of fact, these etiquettes do not start when dining but they start right from the first call that you give to your guests. Moreover, the rules of dining also depend on the nature of the meeting – business lunch, friendly dinner or a date, each have their own rules of eating. Therefore, in the best interest of laymen like us, let us just briefly understand the etiquettes required at the table. These 4 modern rules may apply to wherever you go, even at the so-sophisticated restaurants that provide fine dining at Lancashire.
1. Keep gizmos aside
Be it a business meeting or a simple date, it is never a good idea place your gadgets, aka cell phones, PDA or just about anything electronic. Dining table at a restaurant means only food, wine, utensils ad napkin on the table.
2. Keep used utensils in the plate
Where do you put your used clothes after taking them off? Probably in a washing machine, maybe, just because your bedroom is where you live. Similarly, dining table is where you keep fresh utensils and food (in a plate, of course). Put your cutlery in the plate once you are done with the meal. This also signifies that you are done with your meal and may proceed for the dessert.
3. Spruce up
It’s that time of the era where the lesser you wear, the more fashionable you look. But frankly, you’ll certainly attract some stares for being that way at the dinner table. A neat and tidy dress up is always welcomed and appreciated. Though Lancashire fine dining restaurants won’t mind you in a haggard way, you are responsible for your own image that you create if you attend a dinner that way.
4. Common sense
Some common sense on the table would make you a great eater with decency. Common sense includes:
a. Don’t eat with your open.
b. Don’t cough with your mouth open.
c. Don’t speak with your mouth full of food.
d. Don’t yell at the waiter.
