Using Removable Bollards to Increase Driver Awareness

In many accidents and vehicular collisions, driver awareness plays a huge part in the early stages. Removable bollards are a great way to protect areas and control access, but they can also be used to encourage greater driver awareness. Let’s take a closer look at how we can use bollards to improve visual awareness in areas of high risk.

Accident Avoidance is Key:

The use of security bollards to stop crashing vehicles is well known, but in this case, bollards are used to prevent the collision entirely. Studies have shown that in many cases visual markers that are clear and easy to understand can often be enough. One would imagine that a simple sign would suffice, but signs can be overlooked or ignored. However, a bollard presents a clear barrier, when used in conjunction with a sign, the intent is easy to understand. As an example, a road that should only be used for authorised access will not be entered by a vehicle if it is blocked with a bollard.

Heightening the Awareness of the Driver:

Crashing a car into a steel cored bollard will not end well for the driver and his car. We need to ensure that the awareness of the driver is heightened so that he can take appropriate action well in advance. Bollards are constructed at a height that is highly visible to drivers operating a standard car. When they are used to line a road, they make the driver more aware of their environment and encourage careful driving. Visibility can be further enhanced by fitting bollards that are painted in high visibility colours. It is quite common practice to use lit bollards to line pedestrian paths and walkways. Prominent colours will help at night or in low light conditions very well, but they are also very effective during the day.

The Flexibility:

A well planned out site will benefit from using bollards to increase safety. A traffic calming strategy using bollards (perhaps in concert with other methods) will work far better than signs alone. Additionally, there is lots of flexibility when using bollards that are retractable or removable. Access can be denied or allowed as required to run the property effectively.

If they would like to know more about using a
