We all have colorful childhood memories of our grandmothers and the magic of their cooking. Even the simplest meal would be an exquisite treat with fresh and bursting flavors. Most of the granny’s breakfast and lunch recipes end up becoming not just classic family recipes but the lifelong favorites of family members.

We are listing here some of the traditional and easy vegetarian recipes from the grandma’s kitchen.

  • Chukandar (Beetroot) Puri: Colorful puris with a characteristic flavor is one of the favorite dishes from the grandmother’s kitchen. Served with hot potato and gourd curry, it is one of the perfect treat for both kids and adults.

  • Thekua: This is a crispy and crusty traditional dish from Bihar and Jharkhand made up of wheat flour, coconut, ghee, jaggery, coconut and cardamom combined with raisins and dates.
  • Choorma: It is one of the most popular recipes from Haryana prepared by grandmothers from crushed wheat flour roti mixed with desi ghee and gur shakkar. Dry fruits are also mixed for additional flavor.
  • Chana Dal Peetha: Tempered with curry leaves and mustard and served with the fresh coriander chutney, these lentil stuffed dumplings is one of the favorite lunch recipes of Indians.
  • Bajre ki Khichdi: It is one of the traditional easy vegetarian recipes of Haryana. It is one of the yummiest khichdis which is popular not only among Haryanwis but across India in dinner prepared from Bajra and moong dal.
  • Stuffed brinjal: It is one of the amazing vegetarian lunch recipes prepared with baby brinjals with fenugreek and coriander seeds based masala. Serve it with Dal and rice in lunch or dinner.
  • Saffron coconut rice: When we were kid, we all have seen mothers and grandmothers cooking yellow rice. It is one of the favorite dishes of kids as well as adults. The yellow rice is prepared with freshly squeezed coconut milk, saffron and butter. A few whole spices are added to it including cloves, cinnamon and cardamom.
  • Palak and Makhana Subji: This is simplest and delicious spinach and makhana (foxnut) lunch recipes that has wide health benefits. It is a good source of calcium that has a low glycemic index and is good for diabetics too.
