The sad truth is that over 80% of girls suffer from some form of cellulite; dimples or orange skin on the buttocks, hips and thighs. The reasons for it aren't well enough understood although they well know what happens. The fact is that that cellulite occurs where the subcutaneous (Just under the surface skin) fat herniates with the connective tissue. In mild case it may only manifests as a small rippling and in severe cases causes big dimples and an orange peel effect. This is usually to be seen on peoples, particularly post pubescent females, buttocks and thighs.

It is a further fact that it is not at all debilitating. No one has ever got ill or died from cellulite, so medical science is justly reluctant to expend too much effort or too many resources trying to discover a cure to treat it. This is hardly surprising as they do not have a cure for sinusitis and that IS a medical condition which affects a fair percentage of all people.

The trouble is that many of the fashions, especially beach wear and casual outdoor shorts and skirts worn by females expose a great deal of said thighs. Many swim wear bikinis and the like completely expose the buttocks and so the presence of "Orange Peel" or "Dimples" rather spoils the effect.

And it should be further emphasized that cellulite is not confined to the fat or obese people. Even slim girls are known to have the problem. However overweight people are more prone to displaying the cellulite on their thighs and but so the loss of weight may reduce the manifestation.

So what can be done about it?

Well there are many possible remedies offered:-

Mesotherapy involves the injection of vitamins, amino acids and minerals just under the skin in the affected area. There is no scientific evidence that this treatment really works in the long term. In addition there are dangers such as swelling, and irregular curves.

Liposuction. This procedure which is both painful and expensive does not treat cellulite directly but rather sucks out the fat layers which are much deeper than the troublesome fat cells leading to the "orange peel". There are other dangers attached to Liposuction which include the fact that the contours of your body not being left as desired.

Massage and Spa days are a lot of fun, letting your body relax and generally increasing your feeling of well being. There is evidence that they provide a temporary respite from cellulite symptoms as the excess fluid is eliminated. But these benefits are likely to wear off quickly.
