A device that closely resembles the workings of a load cell is a sensor. Load cells are transducers that transform properties like weight or force into electronic signals. Every load cell uses a circuitry that determines the type of signal to which it transforms the physical parameter of the load. Load cells are used in diverse industries, from automotive to neonatal health care, food to pharmaceuticals, mines to steel and whatnot. To make a load cell more relevant to the functions of these industries, they are classified into some common shapes. Let’s take a swift look through the three most common type of load cell, namely, beam load cells, compression load cells and double-ended load cells.

S Beam Load Cells: An S beam load cell is ideal for the measurement of forces of both pull and push, also referred to as universal type. It is a great tool for gauzing tension of pull in general, but is equally effective in quantifying the force of push as well. Bending beam load cells rely on the bending moment to transfer the signal. The load application point changes in the longitudinal direction of the bending beam with respect to the concerned identical loads. The Sensor is protected against angular load/ force by using swivel type Rod-end bearing or Load button.

Compression Load Cells: The second most common type of load cell is a compression load cell. This device works by using the units of compression and transforming them into electronic signals. This load cell has a single point where the material block is loaded for the conversion. Compression load cells are used in industries and warehouses to measure the weight of oversized, or at least weighty commodities precisely. Truck weighing station is one of key sites of use. The trucks are made to drive onto the scale where the mechanical force created is computed by the compression cells fitted in it. The Signal is processed thru a Digitizer, which displays the load.

Double-Ended Load Cells: Double-ended load cells are the third most popular kind of load cell used by industries. Just as the name suggests, the double ended load cell is a block of material which is straight in built with both ends fixed in place. The load is placed at the center for measurement. Double-ended beams are designed differently owing to the uses. Vehicle scales, hopper weighing and end and center loaded are three of the commonly used styles. This is more sturdy and can take eccentric load, without affecting the actual load sensing.

Each of these load cells used across industries are manufactured and supplied worldwide.
