Are you fresh out of college or in your final year of graduation?

Have you applied for SBI PO 2017?

Then, your heart must be beating a little faster with the approaching date of the SBI PO 2017 preliminary examination at the end of April on the 29th and 30th, and the 6th and 7th of May.

All candidates must know that there is a cap on the number of attempts to appear for this exam:

General Category 4 attempts

OBC 7 attempts

SC/ST no restrictions

This must be the question on most first timers’ minds: Is it possible to clear the SBI PO examination in my very first attempt?

The answer is that it IS possible with the right kind of dedication, the right attitude and the right kind of preparation.

Dedicate your time

No one really has an exact figure, but going by the experience every year, almost 20 lakh candidates will appear for the SBI PO 2017. With so much competition, no candidate can afford to take it easy.

If you are serious about hitting this jackpot at your very first attempt, you need to be dedicated to the time and the effort that you will put in. How much time and how much effort depends on what your general standard of education is and how quickly you can absorb the knack of attempting 100

questions in 60 minutes in the SBI PO preliminaries, and 155 questions in 180 minutes in the SBI Mains.

There are those who will take a year off and wisely sign-on to prepare with expert trainers as a do or die effort. There are others who prefer a shorter stint of 6 months. Many prepare for multiple competitive exams together and are what can be called, ‘primed’ already, and may be comfortable with a shorter 3 month crash-course.

To whichever category you belong, it is advisable to set all distractions aside for the time being, and think SBI PO 24 x 7.

Attitude and aptitude

The SBI PO exam needs you to practise so that you can build the stamina and the confidence to attempt the questions and answer them in the allotted time. Many candidates get flustered because time hangs over their heads like a sword dangling by a strand of hair!

You need to develop the attitude of a winner: acquire the stamina and steadiness to fight the 1 hour of the preliminaries and the 3 hours of the Mains. A winner’s attitude means that there is no place for getting anxious and losing nerve if he/she stumbles on a question or feels that things are not going as per plan.

Some candidates have the innate aptitude to do this. But many successful candidates have learnt to have winning attitudes because of the confidence that is instilled in them by constant practice, and talented trainers who teach them the ‘tricks of the trade.’

Preparing for the big day

To prepare for the SBI PO, you must have a planned schedule:

  • In the early period, earmark time for each of the topics and study from material tailor-made to the exam.

  • Follow this up by working out papers in each of the sections. Keep an eye on the clock. Time is of the utmost importance in the SBI PO exams.

  • Then work out complete papers for the Prelims as well as the Mains. Previous papers are a good way to accustom yourself to the actual event. Try to improve your time management.

  • Do not take breaks in the midst of a test paper. You must develop the stamina to concentrate for the duration of the Prelims (1 hour) and the Mains (3 hours) without a break.

  • All India Mock Tests are an effective way to gauge your relative position in the field of competition. At least one mock test a week in the later stages of preparation is a must.

This kind of prepping which escalates with time is only possible if you start early enough. You can be a first-time wiz if you have the guidance that will give you a designer plan.
