A Complete Guide On How to Frame Your Bathroom Mirror?

Plain, flat builder-grade mirrors are practical but bland. You'll give your bathroom mirror a decorator look by making a frame from moldings hooked up to a mirror's edge. Save time with moldings made from light-weight material that is easy to cut, pre-primed and ready to paint. Using decorative corner blocks adds a classy touch and eliminates the requirement to miter the molding pieces. Choose a paint color that accents your bathroom decoration, and you'll upgrade your mirror for a fraction of the cost of professional framing.

  1. Measure and cut light-weight composite molding into lengths which will fit the edges of your mirror, allowing house for a decorative block in every corner. Using a miter box ensures a correct, straight cut.
  2. Paint the molding pieces and corner blocks as desired. Cover the edges and back edges of the pieces also as the front. Allow the paint to dry.
  3. Check your mirror to see if it's mounted securely to the wall with adhesive. If so, remove the mirror clips to make a flat surface. If it's not, you'll add clear liquid caulk between the wall and mirror, allowing the caulk to dry and cure for 24 hours, or as directed on the merchandise label, before removing the clips. Instead, use a craft knife to cut an indentation in the back of the molding pieces at the location of every clip. Beware not to cut through the molding piece.
  4. Mount a corner piece in every corner of the mirror, keeping the outer edges flush with the mirror side. Apply clear liquid caulk to the back side of the corner block, keeping the caulk 1 inch away from the sting of the block to stop spreading onto the mirror surface. Position the block on the mirror and apply strips of adhesive tape diagonally across the block to carry it in place while the caulk sets.
  5. Check the length of molding items by holding them in place against the bathroom mirror, between the corner blocks. If needed, trim the excess length so as that the molding fits snugly between the corner blocks. Gaps, if found, are stuffed in once the molding has been connected.
  6. Apply a bead of clear liquid caulk during a wavy line to the backside of a molding piece, keeping the caulk bead 1inch away from the sides of the molding strip. Hold the piece in place that the outer edge is flush with the mirror edge and the cut edges regarding the corner pieces. Apply strips of adhesive tape across the dimension of the molding to hold it places. Repeat with the remaining molding pieces. Allow the caulk to set for 24 hours, or as explicit in product directions, then remove the adhesive tape.
  7. Check for gaps between the molding edges and corner items or between the molding and mirror. Fill the gaps with white paintable caulk and allow it to dry. Paint over the white caulk with the paint used on the molding items. you may also enhance any mirror edges which can show with a similar paint.

Tips
