Defining a Backlink and What it Means For Online Marketing

Most of us that do not handle the online marketing side of a business have no idea how to properly define a backlink. A backlink is a link from another website that leads back to your own website. Backlinks are a staple of search engine optimization (SEO) and a high quality website that contains many backlinks is more likely to be listed at the top of pages of popular search engine sites such as Google and Bing.

Backlinks should be used by anyone marketing anything online. This will help you capitalize on the search queries of the online public. Search engines take into account how many backlinks your site has acquired as well as the relevancy and quality of each.

Collaboration is key when making a quality backlink. For example, let's say you produce and sell material for yarn and crochet work online. It would be wise for you to pair up with someone who has a good web presence in that community to promote your products on their blog or social media page so that their followers can visit your website and purchase any of your products. While this strategy is popular among websites focusing on similar areas, it is unlikely for competing websites to provide backlinks for each other.

Of course, there is deceit when it comes to the world of SEO. Poor strategies including utilizing the services of link-heavy sites and link exchange networks. Search engines may penalize companies who are practicing these tactics.

Again, I highly encourage you to pair up your content with social media sites, whether it be yours or someone else's. This is a great method for getting visitors to view your content. Search engines look for backlinks that lead back from high quality or authority sites that have a mass amount of visitors every day.

High quality backlinks are a huge factor in Google’s algorithm and they will remain to be. They can be the determining aspect that drives a website to the top of the search engine’s results. While link building endeavors are done specifically for search engine optimization reasons, they are beneficial for many other reasons.
