JEE Advanced 2016 paper analysis
Posted: Apr 12, 2017
The paper was more or less on the lines of the question paper in 2015 – it had multiple choice questions, multiple right answer type and multiple integer kind questions.
There were two important changes that had been introduced in the last year. There was a partial marking introduced for multiple correct answer MCQs and the paper was more of a logical one rather than being calculative.
In Chemistry, the overall difficulty level was very moderate. There were at the most 4-5 questions that were genuinely tough and tricky. An average of 6 questions were asked from Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry.
Given the paper was a little difficult, scoring 80 % would have been challenging.
In Mathematics, the paper was unusually tough. There were about 5 questions with lengthy solutions. Scoring in this paper would be equally tough.
The Physics paper turned to be the easiest one out of the entire lot. All the questions were of a standard and had enough clarity reducing the chances of students struggling with or misunderstanding the paper.
JEE Advanced – Paper no.2
The format of the JEE Advanced Paper 2 differed from that of the previous years in a very significant way. There were a lot of single option correct questions asked in comparison to that of the previous year. Matrix matching questions were also amiss.
The chemistry paper was set to moderate difficulty. At the most four questions were on the tougher side.
Mathematics in Paper 2 proved to be a good scoring subject easier than Paper 1. The examination was balanced with easy and tough concepts both incorporated together.
No tricky questions were asked in the paper. A large portion of the paper was asked from Calculus and Co-ordinate Geometry. There were more questions from Grade 12 than Grade 11.
For the cream of the students, the exam would have been quite a piece of cake while for the average students, the paper would have been slightly tough to crack.
With the exam coming up next month, these insights can be taken into account to do well in the exam.
