The Misconceptions And Facts Surrounding The Adhaar Card Scheme
Posted: Apr 12, 2017
From the time the scheme of Adhaar Card has initiated in India, facts, both good and bad, has surfaced. A number of myths surround this Smart Card; including misconceptions that it will result into incessant intrusion or that, the unique identity is just trouble and some even consider this as reckless as well as impertinent. However, instead of the several misconceptions, this Smart Card has paved its way into the country.
In fact, it has somehow proved to be a much-needed scheme for a country with such a huge population. An Adhaar Card has turned out be an ideal way of reaching the poorest sections of the country and ensuring that they receive their portion of benefits from schemes and programs that the government operates in different places. Regardless of the misapprehensions surrounding this Smart Card, if this works as the government expects it, then the benefits will prevail over the so much touted drawbacks.
As compared to the misconceptions hovering around the Adhaar Card scheme, implementation seems to be a bigger issue. The biggest doubt is whether this card is obligatory or not. In order to persuade the public in getting the card, the government does not allow assessment of benefits that accrue from this Smart Card unless and until the holder procures and presents it in front of the concerned body.
The Adhaar Card scheme got little support from the masses. However, this is the need of the hour, as only public support can help in achieving the benefits promised by this unique identity. The very first reason why this scheme should be supported is that it is a great way of putting some restrictions on misuse of government subsidies. Secondly, no one can undermine the safety factor that this Smart Card brings with itself.
The Adhaar Card makes use of biometric technology for preventing leakages of private information of the holder. Although, biometric technology is only in its initial phase and still requires a number of improvements. Many experts claim this unique identity to be ahead of time in a country like India, whereas many deem it necessary for a country where several disparities exist.
The cost of managing the Adhaar Card scheme, especially in a huge country like India, is pretty huge for the government, but if implemented in the right manner with the right attitude, then the advantages offered by the card will compensate the expenditure behind implementing it. Instead of portraying a controversial nature, this Smart Card has been able to draw attention of many. The government’s ambitions of linking the scheme of providing unique identification to people with the subsidies and benefits it offers is a positive step towards providing a mandatory status to the scheme.
