Speaking English is different and Teaching English is different. Teaching English to the Students of Other Language is more difficult. Have you ever taught a Tamil (Indian Language) speaker to pronounce the word “famous” without sounding like “paymous”? It’s not easy because the “fa” sound is non-existent in Tamil. This is just an example, but there are lots of difficulties like this in teaching English. English is one of the most difficult languages to learn. Though TESOL job is challenging, teaching English abroad can be immensely rewarding.

But, you have to be very careful before starting your TESOL certification course. I hope this article will help you to get the right course. Please follow the below checklists.

Do you really want a TESOL certification?

Nowadays TESOL certification becomes more popular. So, everyone started to join in TESOL institutions without knowing the pains and gains. Ask yourself, do you really need a TESOL certificate? And you have to know everything about TESOL course structure, fees, job opportunities, overseas lifestyle, etc… If yes, then go ahead.

Online Course or on-site course?

This is where many students get confused. I have written many articles about the difference between the online course and on-site course, and the advantages and disadvantages of them. Please go back and refer our previous articles. In short, online course id low cost and more convenient. You no need to travel, flexible timing, you can work from your home. On the other hand, on –site course is more value (of course I disagree this statement. Online course gives the equivalent certification like the on-site course. But, very few employers prefer on-site candidates than online candidates.). You can network with like-minded people. A real classroom environment gives you the practical knowledge of handling the classroom setup. It is costly compared to online TESOL certification.

Have you decided your destination country?

You have to decide your destination country first. Many TESOL institutions offer the overseas job assistance. So, If you tell them your desire, they will tell you whether they offer job assistance for the particular country or not. This is the best way to narrow down your course provider.

Have you researched about the course provider?

There are many fake institutions out there. Do not fall for their traps. They may offer 50% discount or 90% discount or any unbelievable false promise. Please be aware and stay away from those fake institutions. Do a little research and find the best institutions.
