NVR (Network Video Recorder) is a software program that is used for recording videos in a digital format. This recording is done and stored in a disk drive, SD memory card or a USB flash drive. This software doesn’t contain any dedicated video capture hardware. It is run on a dedicated device through. This device is usually an embedded operating system. It is typically deployed in an IP video surveillance system.

Compared to the DVRs (Digital Video Recorders), network video recorders are quite distinct. Their input is from a network and not from a direct connection to a video capture card or tuner. While the video on a DVR is encoded and processed at the DVR, videos on NVR are encoded and processed at the camera. The videos are then streamed to the NVR for storage or remote viewing. Additional processing such as tagging with meta-data and further compression is done at the NVR.

Benefits of Using Network Video Recorders

Here are some of the benefits of NVRs:

  1. This software is used for protecting the customer’s business premises. It consists of good quality IP cameras that help the organization store, search, maintain, control as well as record videos.
  2. NVRs are designed for linking dozens of cameras; however, they offer centralized management and access locally as well as through the web. Newest security threats are being avoided with the latest technology and NVR is one of them. 3. With the rise in use of NVRs, many organizations are able to expand their services and also maximize their revenue. 4. The latest NVRs with user-friendly software interfaces are easy to install and configure. There are no hassles in using them and they can be easily operated with a simple web browser. 5. You can centrally or remotely control and record dozens or even hundreds of linked IP cameras with NVR. By using PDA, desktop or mobile phones, the stored videos or live video streams can be easily accessed. 6. Networking and imaging standards are utilized by IP cameras in the network video recorder. This makes them ideal for all types of standard cameras and networking equipment. It becomes easy for users to mix and match equipment by different manufacturers. 7. In most scenarios, you can trust the NVR server and IP camera hardware. NVR also supports different settings such as motion detection, event detection, recording schedules that maximize the disk detection utilization. As per the needs, you can add more NVR servers and cameras.

In most video surveillance applications such as malls, ATMs, offices, colleges and schools, the NVR technology can be easily brought into use. It can also be used for industrial security. The network video recorder also features a digital video enrichment through which the manipulation of abilities of IP cameras linked to the system is allowed. Settings can be personalized by the users to detect events or motions and can even do the recording, if it is required.
