National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is an exam conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA) for the admissions in B.Arch colleges. It is held on an annual basis. This year, CoA had brought some changes in the exam pattern, and its consequences were visible in the exam happened on 16th April 2017.

The changes made by CoA in the NATA exam pattern are mentioned below:

1. Earlier, NATA exam uses to start in March end and continue until June end, but now it has become one-time exam, and the conduction date has been fixed.

2. Earlier, an Architecture aspirant can appear for Nata in five online exams, but now the candidate can appear only in one offline exam.

  1. Earlier, the NATA scores were valid for three years, but now it is valid only for one year.
  2. Earlier, the candidates could select any date for giving the exam, but now one date for appearing in the exam has been fixed by the CoA.
  3. Earlier, random questions of Drawing, GK and logic were asked in the NATA paper, but now the exams are categorized into three sections: General Aptitude, Drawing and Mathematics.
  4. Earlier, the exam can be given after class Xth, but now only the students who have passed 10+2 or diploma holders can give the exam.
  5. Earlier, the minimum passing marks were 80, but now the minimum passing marks are 50.

Taking into account the changes made by the CoA, the students had made their strategies accordingly. On 16th April the NATA 2017 had surprised the B.Arch aspirants with increasing the weightage of marks of Mathematics in the paper. Also, the students were not allowed to use drawing instruments and rather asked to draw free handed in drawing paper.

Things to Take Care:

NATA 2017 had given some inferences that will help to prepare better for the NATA 2018 exam. The inferences are mentioned below:

  1. Be prepared for an unexpected thing in the paper. There can be changes in marking scheme, or any unexpected question may be asked. In such situation, panic would not work. Try focusing on doing questions that will help in increasing the scores.
  2. Do a lot of free hand practice of drawings that will contribute to saving time in the main paper and to increase the score.

The level of NATA exam rose from before. The students need to get in line with the expectations of the examiner. The NATA Results will be declared by 10th June 2017.
