Reality Is a Reflection of Our Minds, Collective or Otherwise

Interior decorating involves more than just your basic furniture, such as tables and chairs or beds and dressers. It also involves filling in the other spaces around these central pieces of furniture with things like decorative mirrors or Japanese-flavored Shoji screens or artistic prints in the form ofcalligraphy. Of course, Feng Shuiis an ideal way to go beyond just decorating your home to transforming it on a deeper/higher level. According to a map of non-Jungian, more socially-oriented archetypes, this is accomplished by placing modern furniture and other personal possessions in spiritually strategic locations within each room throughout a house or an office-space.The mirror has always been a source of human debate. It lends itself easily to metaphor as a direct and powerful form of communication. However, the image of a mirror also has a negative connotation. To understand that notion, all you have to do is think of the mythological character of Narcissus staring into a smooth, reflective pool of water all day long. Nevertheless, a mirror comes in handy when you’re plucking a hair or pulling a Biblical mote out of your eye, so let us praise the practicality of themodern mirror.

As Bruce Lee Said: "Be like Water..."

Although Bruce Lee lived a fairly short life, it was a fulfilling life in many ways. What he accomplished as a cinematic artist and especially a martial artist is saturated with noteworthy anecdotes. His approach to Kung Fu and Jeet Kune Do was immersed in Taoist principles. He had his hardships and disappointments to be sure, but he had a way of sublimating them into something more fluid and creative. One of his disappointments was not getting the role of Kwai Chang Caine, the protagonist of the TV show, Kung Fu. He was the network’s first choice, but because of the rampant prejudice towards Asians at the time, David Carradineeventually portrayed the ‘mythical being’ referred to as Grasshopper by his blind master. As you gaze at any fountain or stream or waterfall or body of flowing water, keep the words of Bruce Lee in your mind, your heart, and your body: "Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."

Let There Be Lighting

An essential part of interior decorating is lighting, and you can’t have light without shadows; that’s just the nature of life on planet Earth, and probably the whole universe. Some rooms, such as bedrooms and living-rooms are served better by muted light, while offices and dining-rooms benefit more from a brighter source of light. So, take your time and be selective when choosing lamps and light-fixtures, because no one wants to waste money or time when it comes to creating and fostering a pleasant and productive indoor environment, whether it be their home or office. Imagine having your living-room or office illuminated by a non-directional, ambient source of lightemanating from a pretty end-table made from natural hard-woodlattice and rice-paper.
