Lighting techniques have greatly improved in past few years. And one such example of improved lighting is Pendant Lighting. As the name suggests, Pendant Lighting functions very similar to the pendant in the necklace, i.e. imparting charm, beauty and extraordinary illumination to the dwelling. The Pendant Lights serve the dual functions of utility and decor. They can be easily installed anywhere and repositioned with ease, if required. Also, they can be easily hung from diverse heights.

What Is Pendant Light?

Pendant Light, also known as drop or suspender, is a lone light fixture that is hung from the ceiling through a cord, chain or metal rod. The lighting is often hung in multiples in a straight line in an area. It typically comes in materials such as metal, glass, concrete and plastic.

Places Where Pendant Lights Can Be Hung:

High Ceilings

These Light Fittings are ideal to be hung in rooms with high ceilings or vaults. They are best to be hung in classically decorated homes.

Bedroom

A low watt Pendant Fixture can be fixed in the corner of a bedroom for ambient lighting. It offers soft lighting that is desirable in bedrooms. Also, addition of small pendants at varying lengths in the same corner of the bedroom delivers an artistic look to the place.

Kitchen

Kitchen is an area that requires sufficient lighting. So, adding a set of Pendant Lights in kitchen or in a corner of kitchen that is darker can be ideal to add both lighting and aesthetic appeal. Also, cabinets can be illuminated with short Pendant Lights to ensure a focused lighting to countertops.

Stairway

Stairway usually remains dark. So, addition of Pendant Fixtures on the ceiling of the stairs can create a dramatic setting.

Types Of Pendant Lights:

Mini Pendants

They are approximately ten inches wide. They are downward facing light. They usually come in bright coloured glass shades. They are commonly seen in bars and restaurants and are also ideal for kitchen counters, dining tables and small areas.

Bowl Pendants

They are called so due to their bowl shape and open top. They are usually hung as the room’s focal point. These types of lightings are comparatively softer than other pendant types. They are ideal for large spaces.

Drum Pendants

They come in different sizes and look like a lamp shade hanging from the ceiling. They have a drum shape with flat top and bottom, and cylindrical sides. They can be covered with any fabric. They are extensively hung in business settings to offer a contemporary look.

Multi Light Pendant

They are strings of individual Mini Pendants that are hung from a single mount. They are ideal to be used over coffee tables, pool tables etc.

Bell Pendants

They are bell-shaped lightings ideal for entryways. They provide a classy, traditional look to the place.
