High Purity Nano Magnesium Oxide and Heat Conduction Plastics

The heat conduction plastics is the plastic products with higher heat conductivity. In general, the heat conductivity is greater than 1W/(m. K). This is about the magnesium oxide used for thermal conductive plastics.

Most metallic materials have better heat conductivity, and can be used for radiator, heat exchange material, waste heat recovery, brake block, printed substrate and others. However, the corrosion resistance of metallic material limits the applications of heat exchanger, heat-sink, solar water heater and storage battery chiller in chemical industry production and effluent treatment. And the plastics has good corrosion resistance and mechanical property. However, compared with metal material, the heat-conducting property of plastics is not good. HDPE has the best thermal conductivity. Its heat conductivity is only 0.44VV/(m. K). The low heat conductivity of plastics limits the applied range. For example, it can not used for friction means heat or the occasion need to lose heat in time. With the mushroom growth of integrated technology and packaging technique in electric field, the volume of electron component and logical circuit shrinks for tens of thousands of times. Therefore, it is pressed for insulated encapsulation material with excellent heat dissipation. The addition of high purity nano magnesium oxide meets this demand.

There are some formulas from different thermal conductive plastics:

  1. Adding the material with high thermal conductivity in high crystalline matrix resin, it is the most promising method to improve the plastic heat conductivity. There is a large additive amount to high thermal conductivity filler for polymer. It will affect the mechanical property of composite material.
  2. Adding high purity nano magnesium oxide into PPS, the heat conductivity coefficient can achieve 3.4W/m.K. Adding the 70% aluminium oxide, the heat conductivity coefficient can achieve 2.392W/m.K.
  3. Adding the 10% of high purity nano magnesium oxide into the EVA solar energy sealing compound film, the heat-conducting property has been improved. What’s more, the insulativity, degree of crosslinking and heat stability also have been improved in different degree.
