Chandi – The Goddess Who Is Quick To Respond

Goddess Chandi is a composite personification of Lakshmi, Saraswathi and Parvathi having plenty of attributes of Trayambaka with three eyes that spans past, present and future. She rescues the distressed and oppressed who surrender before her whole heartedly. Her divine grace works to destroy our inner enemies and when she is pleased she mitigates all sufferings and brings success, wealth and prosperity into our lives.

The moon is in full brilliance on the Pournami day. It is sign of positive energy and even poets have not spared the celestial wonder for working on the sentiments and attitude of the people besides themselves. The energy of the moon is so powering on the day of Pournami that it lifts the spirits of the people and bring about a positive atmosphere. The day is also dedicated to Chitra Gupta, the keeper of our Karma records. So people worship the assistant of Lord Yama (the god of death) to satiate him so that he doesn’t take harsh decisions against them.

Goddess Chandi or Durga has activated powers on full moon days or Pournami and that’s why it becomes necessary to worship her during Kali yuga to suppress all evil effects, planetary doshas, health problems, sudden deaths etc.

Divya Sapthashloka Mantra Offers Powers Of Knowledge:

It refers to the seven shlokas taken from Devi Mahatmyam and pays obeisance to the goddess who removes fears and blesses us with grasping powers of knowledge. It says that it attracts the minds of the intellects or Gnanis so that they are obsessed with the Goddess.

The kalasamsare used for creating a seat for invoked deities during the ritual. On the day of Nava ChandiHomam, about eight kalasams will be readied one for Lord Ganapathy, another, a general one for the Nava Chandi ceremony and six others for Mahalakshmi, Saraswathi, Rajarajeshwari, Brahami, Maheshwari and Kaumari.

Nava Chandihomam is performed by reciting every verse of DurgaSaptashloka mantras and offering oblations into the sacrificial fire. These include sweet puddings, flowers, fresh and dry fruits, honey etc.
