The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is a continuous national program of fellowship in Fundamental Sciences, started and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to draw remarkably highly aggravated students for doing basic science courses and research in science.

The main aim of the program is to find out students with talent and ability for research; help them assess their academic prospective; support them to start research careers in Science, and make sure the growth of the best technical minds for research and growth in the country.

The ad for the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Fellowship is posted on all the national dailies generally on the Second Sunday of July and Technology Day each year.

Selection of the students is done from those learning in XI standard to first year of any undergraduate Program in Fundamental Sciences that is B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology having ability to do technical research. Special groups or Committees are fixed at IISc to monitor the applications and carry out an aptitude test at different centers in the country. On the basis of performance in the ability test, shortlisted students are called for an interview that is the last stage of the selection process. For getting a fellowship, both ability test and interview marks are taken into consideration.

Students registered in an undergraduate course in Fundamental Sciences, that is, B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Statistics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Ecology, Cell Biology, Botany, Molecular Biology, Zoology, Biotechnology, Physiology, Bioinformatics, Neurosciences, Geology, Marine Biology, Human Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, Geophysics, Applied Physics, Environmental Science are eligible for this program.

The Kvpy program registers students beginning from Class XI standards (science subjects) and runs in 3 streams such as Stream SX, stream SA and Stream SB. Starting with mentorship in starting 1-2 years via revelation in VIJOSHI Science Camp, it gives scholarship to KVPY students who are registered in Science Courses (out 18 subjects) at the scholar (BSc, BS-MS or Integrated MS) level upto post-graduate level.

The KVPY Programme proclaims each year sometime in May or June to carry out its selection procedure that is carried out in two stages such as Aptitude Test (in November or so) and Personal Interview. Every year nearly two thousand students are chosen in three streams and approximately one thousand students obtained KVPY Scholarship each year.

Students chosen in KVPY are provided with scholarships all over their course on monthly basis i.e, Rs.5000 for UG courses like B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int./M.Sc/M.S. And, Rs. 7000 for post graduate courses during M. Sc. / 4th to 5th years of Integrated M.Sc/M.S./M.Math./M.Stat.

Liberal fellowships are offered up to the pre-Ph.D. level to the chosen KVPY Fellows.
