The Indian government is taking every plausible step to up the standards of the educational system in the country. With various policies and evaluations, one can see the Indian educational system prepping itself for becoming one of the favoured destinations for individuals from across the globe. With the rising steps, one can see the rise in admission for foreign students in India. One of the reforms that are being brought forward by the government is to increase the participation rate for higher education to 30% by 2020, which at the moment stands as low as 18%.

While the participation of the citizens in higher education hasn't been commendable, it is noteworthy to mention the steps being taken by the government to increase the quality of educational institutions across the country. By setting up new IIT's (Indian Institute of Technology) and IIM's (Indian Institute of Management), the government aims to attract the individuals across the globe to the best management institute in India.

When one looks at the Asian subcontinent for exemplary universities, there are very few that make it to the top rankings across the globe. While the government has realised the potential revenue that they can incur with international students, it is noteworthy to mention the improving quality of education across the country. Along the same, the internationalisation of education is bound to bring in better economic, diplomatic and cultural links with other countries. Thanks to this, the country is now seeing a rise in the number of institutions that are entering the new QS global rankings.

In comparison to the mid 90's, the share of international students in India is seeing a rise in the last two decades. It is also noteworthy to mention that the number of international students choosing Asia has seen a significant rise in comparison to Africa. With new opportunities arising in central and east Asia, one can see a concentration of international students in countries like India, Malaysia, Japan among others. Owing to these statistics, one can see that nearly 80% of the international students come to India to pursue undergraduate courses, while 18% come for their postgraduate studies and only 2 % come for doctoral programs or research.
