Become Scientist And Researcher Through NEST
Posted: Jun 08, 2017
We are improving day by day in the scientific research and development which is evident from the recent launch of the indigenously made heaviest rocket launcher GSLV MK3 which successfully launched and placed the heaviest satellite GSAT-19 in Geosynchronous orbit. This is not just a single example, other fields like defence research and Atomic researchers are also gaining equal momentum. The career path in the field of research looks promising in coming time.
Selecting the Path of Research:
There are many ways to make a career in the area of research, but it is always useful for a research aspirant to set the goal of becoming a researcher at the early stage of the career building. For that purpose, the students who are willing to go into the research field can opt to study in the institutions which primarily focus on developing a scientific workforce. Two institutions take admissions just after the completion of Higher Secondary School. The two institutions are University of Mumbai-Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS) and National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar. Both the institutions were setup in the year 2007 by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Both the institutes offer 5 year integrated M.Sc programme in basic sciences. Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) awards the degrees at NISER. Both the institutes were setup to fulfill the scientific and research requirements of the government to give input to the scientific programmes of the Department of Atomic Energy and other institutions of applied sciences.
Admissions in Institutes:
To take admission in NISER and UM-DAE CEBS it is mandatory to appear in Nest (National Entrance Screening Test). A student can give NEST exam after the completion of 12th class with minimum 60% marks. NEST exam happens once in a year and the final selection is made on the basis of a candidate securing the position in the merit list.
NEST 2017:
NEST 2017 was conducted on 27th May 2017 at various centres across India. The test comprised of five sections- General Aptitude, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. The language mode of the exam is English only. The candidate needs to score marks out of a total 230 score. The overall level of the paper was moderate. Among all the section, the toughest section was of Mathematics, and the easiest section was of Chemistry. The official answer keys are available at the official website of the NEST. The students can download the answer keys for both Set-A and Set-B from the official website. As per the scheduled date, the NEST Results 2017 will be announced on 16th June 2017. The students can check the results at the official website of NEST.
Admissions to these institutions through NEST opens the door for students to engage themselves more in the field of research. After graduating from these research institutions, students can go for Ph.D to do more research work. This ensures an early entry to the research organizations as a scientist. Nuclear Energy is the future of India's energy requirement; a greater workforce is needed to make India energy sufficient.
