There are various kinds of bearings that support a rotation in an angular way around a c entered focal point in two rectangular directions.

It was James Nasmyth who first introduced spherical plain bearing in the year of 1840. The main reason behind this introduction was to generate power transmission in mills and small-scale industries. The structures of these bearings are that they constitute an outer and an inner ring along with a lock to hold the inner ring tightly inside the outer ring. The entire system is spherical in shape.

Maintenance

It is almost always the same when it comes to maintenance of bearings. The constant friction causes abrasion, reshaping which should be controlled by using grease, lubricants, and oils to prevent life threatening accident. Cleaning and proper examination by experts are also necessary.

Applications

These bearings are widely used in every kind of industrial purpose. For example, in mining trucks, oil tankers, robots, high speed trains (bullet trains), construction based automobiles.

Bearing Pillow Block

Plummer block, more popularly known as bearing pillow block, a bearing where a plinth is used to provide support to the rotating object through the help of the bearings. These are usually made up of cast iron and cast steel. The pillow blocks are resistant to dirt thus reducing some unnecessary and hazardous friction. Every different type of the machine needs to have different pillow block and it is the rollers which determine the type of pillow block to be used. The types of rollers used in this mechanism are:

  • Spherical roller
  • Cylindrical roller
  • Tapered roller

The top of the bearing is attached to the base. The tops are further divided into two types:

Split tops – These have two tops and the base is not attached.

Solid tops – Single top.

The materials used for making the tops are stainless steel, iron, and the polyethylene plastics.

Angular Contact Ball Bearings

These ā€˜C’ shaped ball bearings constitute an outer ting and an inner ring. The inner ring is thicker than the outer one. Angular contact ball bearings are mainly used for axial and radial load carrying capacity. These are however difficult to produce thus increasing its market value to notch higher. It even produces more friction than cylindrical or tapered bearings. The various types of such ball bearings are:

  • Four point angular contact ball bearing
  • Single row angular contact ball bearing
  • Double row angular contact ball bearing
