What is MPLS-VPN and how Enterprise Telephony has supported it?

With the advancement of technology, innovations have been taking place thereby benefiting a major portion of the businesses and companies all around the country. Telephones innovated by Graham Bell has changed shape from big black boxes to rotary dial and now in the most advanced format of smartphones. For businesses and enterprises of any size, telephone or network connectivity is important. Therefore, the evolving network facility for companies termed, as "Enterprise telephony" has become an essential component to conduct businesses.

The components of enterprise telephony are:

  • IP Telephony: Conventional PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) technology is being phased out with SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). The transition is fueled by a rapidly decreasing cost of IP-enabled devices, reduced TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), an ever-increasing number of skilled resources to manage the technology and the flexibility it extends to both service provider and the enterprise.
  • UCC: Unified communication in the simplest terms means integration of multiple real -time communication applications into a single, integrated suite.
  • Video Conferencing: Video Conferencing is fast emerging as a tool to cut travel time and as a means to enable a distributed work force to meet face-to-face.
  • Mobility: Extending office telephone and UC capability on mobiles is top on the wish list for the enterprise.
  • WebRTC: Web real-time communications is an emerging standard that allows the use of a web browser for services such as voice calling, video chat, and peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing without the need of internal or external plug-ins.
  • Hosted Voice: Customer facing interactions are getting increasingly complex with the requirement of integration with CRM, IVR, social media interaction and multiple mediums like SMS, Chat, E-mail and voice calling.

Now, we have to understand how enterprise telephony is transforming into MPLS-VPN technology and is helping businesses and enterprises increase profitability.
