PTFE or Teflon insulated wires and cables have some excellent combination of properties that make them useful in a wide number of applications. The outstanding mechanical and electrical properties along with heat resistance, non-flammability, non-toxicity and abrasion resistance make them perfect for use in panels, motors, instrumentation, transformers and other electrical and communication equipment. PTFE insulated cables can be used even in harsh working environments of industrial units where other kind of cables cannot be used due to exposure to chemical fumes and liquids.

PTFE Wires are available either with single or multiple cores. They have a very simple design consisting of multi strand bare or silver plated conductors. The conductors can either be nickel or nickel plated copper. The conductors are wrapped with Teflon/PTFE insulation. The shield is made of Stainless steel wire or tin plated copper wire which is further jacketed using PTFE. Some of the applications in which they are used are listed below:

Applications Of PTFE Wires And Cables

  • Panels and wire harness assembly.
  • High performance motors, rectifiers and transformers.
  • Aircraft, satellite and defense equipment.
  • Communication and electronic equipment.
  • Oven, heaters and furnace.
  • Medical and scientific equipment.
  • Process instrumentation.

Their wide usage in various industrial and commercial applications is owing to the many benefits that they offer. Some of which are mentioned down below:

Advantages Of PTFE Wires And Cables

  • They have high temperature resistance which makes them excellent for use in applications where temperatures range between -65 °C to 260 °C.
  • They are inert to almost all the chemicals, acids, lubricants, oils and hydraulic fluids which make them highly useful for several industrial applications. Their chemical resistance stays unaffected even at high temperatures and pressures.
  • They are non toxic and non flammable which make them a safe option to be used in several indoor applications.
  • They are ideal for outdoor applications as they are resistant to water and moisture.
  • They have excellent UV resistance and can also withstand high stress and pressure. They are highly strain and abrasion resistant and can withstand cracking.
