The discovery of new techniques for replicating the power of regeneration of stem cells has revolutionized the world of science and healthcare. Scientists are now able to make stem cells that can regenerate and this can lead to effective treatment of diseases and injuries with stem cell therapy. Stories about patients benefitting from stem cell therapy are coming from around the globe and this has given a new hope to other patients suffering from degenerative diseases. Recently researchers have demonstrated a number of successful clinical trials that displayed the power of stem cells in healing damaged tissues and reversing symptomatic disorders.

The finding of mesenchymal cells

Of late, scientists have been able to create as well as control a bunch of cells derived from the bone marrow, which can work like stem cells in human body. These cells displayed their healing power in lab-grown cartilage and bone models. Another discovery that took stem cell treatment to a new paradigm is the discovery of mesenchymal cells. Their ability of developing and differentiating into varied cell types like fat, bone and cartilage cells. The only challenge in this field is to culture the cells properly in lab conditions. These cells randomly and continuously differentiate after being stored outside human body. This makes them difficult to culture.

Different kinds of cells discovered

Embryonic stem cells also play an important part in stem cell treatment. Scientists are now able to grow such cells in lab dish also called in vitro, and these are put therapeutic application as well. Other latest developments in the field of stem cell therapy include finding of cardiac cells and how these cells can be engineered for forming heart muscles. This shows the possibility of self repairing of the heart. Researchers have also dug out heart-like stem cells from fat stem cells, which are derived from adipose tissue. As far as treating heart related diseases are is concerned, cells from adipose tissues are considered better because of their ability to make heart muscles quickly and easily.

The revolution of induced pluripotent cells

Making of iPS (induced pluripotent stem cells) is another revolutionary step forward in stem cell therapy. These cells share similar features like embryonic cells. These are also a good source for making heart cells. Researchers are now studying different heart conditions using induced pluripotent cells. Scientist found that cells from human skin can be isolated easily and these can turn into induced pluripotent cells directly. Researchers are also working on the ways of waking the stem cells found in the heart to treat heart failures.

Cells to make clean blood

Out of the numerous studies and trials being conducted world over, another important one is the creation of RBCs from stem cells. If successful, then scientists will be able to create a source of clean blood, which can be used for blood transfusion. This can change the life of people who lose a lot of blood because of injury or during surgery. Many studies associated with stem cell treatment are also targeted to treat cancer and to improve symptoms of other degenerative diseases.

Consistent explorations and application of stem cells

Continuous research and explorations aims at studying the way stem cell commune with different cell types and how stem cells can be used more safely and effectively in medicine. Presently, many health providers are offering therapies based on stem cell for treatment of diseases like diabetes, spinal cord injury, skin burns, arthritis, and many other diseases. However, a lot is yet to be discovered about the inherent nature of stem cells, so that stem cell treatment can be targeted not only control the symptoms of diseases, but also to reverse the conditions that lead to cell damage.
