Solar powered water pumps, solar pumping systems or solar sub-mersible pumps are very useful in remote area settings where it is very costly to run traditional water piping because it is very costly for an off-grid home. Remember, the same applies for solar powered led street lights. They are also used to pump water for livestock and crop irrigation.

Used when the water supply is more than 20 feet from surface, they can be used to lift up water 650 feet and fit in a 4" or larger well casing. These pumps mostly use off solar panels, batteries and sometimes can be hooked to AC power source.

If the well, pond, stream and storage tank is shallow, the most suitable type to go for is a surface solar pump. This solar pumping system or solar powered water pump can lift water 20 feet or less down from the surface. An advantage with these types of systems is that they can push water 200 feet or more after lifting the water from that height.

Linear Current Boosters for Solar Pumps (LCBs) are solar pumping systems that translate additional voltage to current when there is low sun, and make the pump motor run longer.

Like is the case with buying solar powered led street lights, it is necessary to ensure that you select a good solar panel. Remember, the solar panel is sold separately from the pump, but the manufacturer of the pump will show how many watts are needed to give off the desired water flow. This is given in a graph, and one can always buy the right solar panel for a given type and size of solar pump based on the graph.

Remember, selecting the right type and size of solar water pump depends on your pumping or watering needs. A specialist can advise on what amount of horsepower to go for when buying a pump based on his or her assessment of your needs.

It is not important to use batteries on solar water pumps. It is enough to use a solar panel directly. Most people understand that they can pump and store water in a holding tank for use in low sun situations, rather than store power in these batteries.
