We can take responsibility for the kinds of systems and equipment we have in our homes. However, unless we’re living off grid, we don’t have much control over the prices of the energy we consume. Smart decisions and purchases can go a long way towards improving the energy efficiency in our homes. After your evaporative air conditioning installation, there are other considerations that you may want to think about. Here are three tips that will help you to get the best out of your system and make your cooling more efficient.

1. A Maintenance Program

Whenever possible, get enrolled into a maintenance program for your air conditioning system. This might seem like strange advice, after all, if your AC system was only installed recently what could go wrong? Whilst it is true that a newer system is less likely to fail, an AC system is complicated, and like a car, it does need regular maintenance for optimal operation. Ideally, a biannual service should be carried out prior to the commencement of the heating and cooling seasons. This will ensure that your Air conditioning is ready for the busiest times of the year and the additional demands. The chances of failure are reduced, and energy efficiency will be maintained.

2. Clean the Air Filter

The air filters should be cleaned or replaced at least once per month during peak use periods. This will improve your indoor air quality, and an improve the airflow in your home. Another important thing to bear in mind is that a clean air filter improves the energy efficiency of your AC system. When your air filter is blocked, the AC system will work harder to try and compensate for the inhibited airflow. This will drive up energy usage and cost more money when the next bill arrives.

3. Clear and Clean the Outdoor Unit

The outside unit of your air conditioner system is where the heat pulled out of your home is dissipated. In order for the unit to work effectively, it has to be free and clear of obstructions. In most situations, this is vegetation that has sprouted up to cover or even block the unit, and it needs to be cleared. Even minor obstructions can cause a drop in efficiency so getting into a habit of trimming back a couple of times per year is a good idea.
