2017 Jagannath Rath Yatra Date & Time

Lord Jagannath visits his aunt’s place every year in his majestic chariot with a lot of pomp and show which starts from the Puri Jagannath Temple. It is famously known as ‘Jagannath Rath Yatra‘, which is followed by millions of pilgrims all over the world. This temple is known as the Shreekhetra Dham of India and prime of all Jagannath temples in India. It is celebrated on the ‘Dwitiya’ (2nd day) during the ‘Ashadha Shukla Paksha’ (the waxing phase of moon in the Ashadha month of the Hindu calendar).

Rituals Of The Famous Car Festival (Rath Yatra 2017)

Dwitiya Tithi Ends = 01:01 on 26/Jun/2017

Rajendrabhisekha – 04.06.2017 : Grand Coronation (abhisekh) of the Lord of the Universe – The Mahabprabhu.

Rukmaniharan Ekadashi – 05.06.2017 : This was the day when Lord Krishna had kidnapped the beautiful Rukmani.

Champaka Dwadashi – 06.06.2017 : It is observed on 12th day of bright fortnight of Jyestha month. Special puja and bhog are offered to Lord Jagannath on this day.

Daitapai Prabesha & Charabandha – 07.06.2017

Chhaturdashi Senapata Lagi – 08.06.2017

Debasnana Purnima – 09.06.2017

This is famously known as Snana Purnima. Lord Jagannath along with his brother and sister are taken to the banks of a pond known as ‘Snana mandapa’. He is made to have a bath with 108 vessels of water taken from the pond.

ashami Chaka Bije – 19.06.2017 : Puja after the final wheel of the charriot is prepared.

Khalilagi Ekadashi – 20.06.2017

Netroutsav & Nabajaubana Darshan – 24.06.2017

After the holy Snana Purnima, Lord Jagannath is said to catch cold and fever for a duration of 15 days. He is made to have homemade medicines and all the time takes rest in his cot. No devotees are allowed to visit the Lord during these 15 days. After the completion of the 15 days when devotees are allowed to see Lord Jagannath, it is known as Netroutsav.

Srigundicha – 25.06.2017

The famous Car festival commences on this day. Lord Jagannath along with his siblings starts for the most pompous vacation to his aunt’s place.

Hera Panchami

  • 29.06.2017 : ‘Hera’ means to ‘see’ and ‘Panchami’ means the ‘fifth day’. It is celebrated at Gundicha temple on the fifth day from the start date of the Car festival. This festival is dedicated to Goddess Mahalaxmi and is also known as a ritual of Goddess Mahalaxmi.
