If you have been through the experience of looking for summer internship jobs, you probably understand how challenging it can be. It might be true that college students always look forward to summer holidays because it comes forth with opportunities. However, not everyone is lucky enough to land his dream internship position.

Many people would admit that the farthest they have ever reached in their search for lucrative internship positions is the application process. It might have happened last summer. However, that doesn’t mean you should let it slip away again! Your big break can come this summer. However, you must embrace certain things for this to happen.

  • Embrace your personality

Do you have the feeling that you are not competent enough for that position? Well, it might help to know that you are not alone. The fact that you do not have extensive years of experience shouldn’t put you off. After all, it is an internship position and you are supposed to learn! If you made the right application, everything you need for your summer internship should be right inside you! Take advantage of who you are and embrace your inner rookie. Instead of worrying about the possible gaps in your resume, collect everything you learnt while in college and be ready to apply these things at work. Most importantly, be yourself and learn the industry etiquette. At the end of the day, your personality sells more than technical capabilities.

  • Adopt a fearless approach to networking

You will only land that dream internship if the manager in charge is fully convinced that you are worth it. How do you do that when you haven’t even met them in person? This is where LinkedIn comes into play. If you have always thought this platform is for professionals, you were wrong. Ensure you have a solid profile because there is more that comes with it. Even if that were to be true, you have better reasons to update your LinkedIn profile. It means everyone you are possibly trying to impress is within reach. Include even the smallest achievements you have made, even if it was a simple volunteer job at a local children’s home. Establish a strong online presence. Potential employers will definitely love your approach to networking.

  • Stalking isn’t bad after all

You are probably surfing the internet the entire day. Why can’t you use such opportunities to find out more about your favourite companies? Get online and find those contacts. Use Google to find out some interesting facts about the companies. Find out the roles of previous summer interns. What did their job entail? Is there something you need to add to your resume before applying for that particular position? Dig deeper into their careers page and find out more about upcoming events. Before you know it, you will be way ahead of others!

Landing your dream summer internship doesn’t have to be difficult. Simply know what to expect and stay ahead of the game. Most importantly, appreciate who you are and be confident that you are fit for the job!
