How to Stop Users from Changing Desktop Wallpapers
Posted: Jun 30, 2017
Be it on the Windows OS or Apple’s Mac OS, the desktop wallpapers have been a great way of personalizing the computer. They are a way to add one’s touch, dynamics and persona to the plain background and thus show the other users what one is all about.
Things can however be different at the work environment such as your office where your employers might not be fine with the kind of hd desktop wallpapers that you choose to put up as background. For instance, they may not want anything controversial or discriminatory in nature.
So, if you want to display your company’s logo or any other particular image on multiple systems or even on your personal system and prevent anyone from changing it, then do follow these steps:
- Before getting started, just remember to first set any image of your liking as default by either using ‘’Settings’’ app or by right-clicking the mouse and choosing ‘’set as desktop background’’ option.
- By using windows key + R on keyboard, open the Run command window. Then carefully type regedit in it and hit the ‘’enter’’ key.
- Now look for the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
- Create a new ‘’System’’ under the option of ‘’Policies’’ key. After selecting the System key, make a new STRING value Wallpaper in the right-hand side pane. After creating it, set its value to the same path as your desired wallpaper.
- Change the wallpaper style if you want from three options, i.e. centered, tiled or stretched. Make a new STRING VALUE Wallpaper Style and change its value from 0 to 2.
- Click OK. And restart your system. The next time your computer reopens, no one will be able to change the desktop background.
For the users of Mac Operating System, there’s isn’t any fool-proof way developed by the company for the users to lock their hd desktop pictures.Nor any social networking websites carry a solution. However, a couple of tweaks presented below tend to serve as a way out to those who desperately need to guard their desktop backgrounds.
One of the ways is to remove or delete all but one desktop photo from the computer system, that you wish for everyone to see. After doing this, just lock down the directory for /Library/Desktop Pictures/
Another way is to set up a high resolution image of your choice and then going to the following path:
- System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts
- In the left pane, select Services from the list of options
- Uncheck the ‘’Set Desktop Picture’’ item
- Block the pane and exit
