Duck Hunting on a Budget

Duck Hunting on a Budget

Face it, duck hunting is expensive. It’s one of the most expensive outdoor sports. You need a boat, an ATV or UTV, decoys, blinds, calls, and guns, and also a place to hunt. With some creativity and thought, however, you can cut expenses and still have a great time.

Location

One major expense you can slash is where you hunt. Private clubs are pricey, as is purchasing or leasing a spot. States often issue maps with state and federal public hunting areas. You can find them with a simple Internet search.

Guns

Expensive over-under shotguns and semi-automatics look cool on advertising photos, but cost at least $800, and that’s at the low end. You can get a pump shotgun, which works just as well and has everything the duck hunter needs for less than have the price

And, while were on the subject of guns, with regard to ammo, if you need lead a shot alternative, consider something other than a modern alloy. They can cost up to $3.00 apiece. Steel shots, which cost much less, perform virtually just as well.

Blinds

Many hunters say that the best hunting they’ve ever done was from behind brush, while stretched out in a field, and while hidden behind a tree. In their opinion, elaborate, expensive blinds aren’t worth the hassle or expense.

Boats

A really budget conscious hunter could do without a boat and simply walk to their chosen spots. Or, perhaps share the expensive with a friend.

Waders – The One Item With Which You Should Not Be Frugal

You should not, however, skimp or attempt to cost costs on a quality wader. It is imperative that you stay warm and should invest in a reliable wader with proper insulation. The best also come with shell loops, pockets, and D-rings (for attachments).
