Electrical Engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. Electrical Engineering is considered to deal with the problems associated with large-scale electrical systems such as power transmission and motor control. Electrical Engineers are also concerned with using electricity to transmit energy, while electronic engineers are concerned with using electricity to process information.
The department is backed up by six highly efficient Laboratories encompassing the following practical domains:
Electrical Engineering Labs- Electrical Machines Lab.
- Electrical Measurements Lab.
- Control Systems Lab.
- Design & Simulation Lab.
- Power Systems Lab.
- Power Electronic & Drives Lab.
- Electrical Circuits Lab.
- Microprocessors Lab.
- High Voltage Lab.
The laboratories are equipped with the state of the art Equipments & contemporary software tools like MATLAB, PSPICE, PSCAD/EMTDC, PSIM etc. The students are exposed to the best experimental practices under expert guidance from faculty members & laboratory staff.
The Department of Electrical & Electronics engineering since the day of its inception, has been taking long strides in the field of Science and Engineering. Electrical & Electronics engineering Department is one of the oldest and active departments of the institute which anticipated the rapid developments in technology and software and developed the most sophisticated laboratory facilities & excellent infra structure. The department has well qualified, dedicated, enthusiastic teaching & technical staff.
It is a discipline that finds wide scope in emerging areas like Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Power System, Digital signal Processing, Control System and Measurement & Instrumentation etc. The Department is equiped with state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops for labs.
Electrical & Electronics Engineering Labs
BASIC ELECTRICAL LABThis lab offers set-up for basic experiments of Network Theorems, O.C-S.C test for Transformers and D.C Machines. The lab is equipped with experimental kits for verification of Network Theorems like Thevenin, Superposition & Norton’s in various configurations. Kits are also available for the measurement of power in three phase circuit with the help of wattmeters. In this lab the characteristics of A.C motors, D.C generators is also stuided. The lab has panels for speed control of D.C motors. In this lab students are also given knowledge about running and reversing of a three phase Induction motor on experimental Panels.
EMEC LABElectromechanical energy conversion Lab of the department has following sections. EMEC-I (D.C Type motors) EMEC-II (A.C Type motors) This lab aims at familiarizing the students with the various types of characteristics of d.c shunt generator, load characteristics of d.c shunt generators, d.c series generators etc.Panels are available to obtain the efficiency and losses of a d.c shunt machine. The labs also have panels for three phase transformer to determining the parameters of equivalent circuit with the help of open circuit and short circuit tests.Setup of Ward Leonard method is used to obtain the speed control of dc separately excited motor. Demonstration of the Scott connection for converting three phase to two phase conversion is also held. In this lab various tests are done for finding out the characteristics, efficiency and equivalent circuit of three phase induction motor, single phase induction motor etc, load test, no load test, block rotor test are done respectively. MATLAB (SIMULINK) software is avaibalbe for determining speed torque characteristics of a three phase slip ring induction motor.
CONTROL SYSTEM LABIn this lab the machine, mechanism or other equipment is maintained or altered in accordance with the desired output. The study of compensating networks includes the study of simple phase network, study of lag lead compensator and D.C position control system which is based on servomechanism. The study of transmitter receiver characteristics of a synchro set, study of effects of proportional, integral and derivative control action of PID controller and temperature controller are also carried out in this lab.
POWER SYSTEM LABLab is fully equipped with the Panels of Xd & Xq of a Salient pole alternator, IDMT over current relay, percentage differential relay, fault current of L-G, L-L-G etc. The study of different types of faults is a basic process used in power system engineering, Study of these panels is useful for Electrical & Electronics Engineering students. Different type of distance relay are available in the lab like impedance, mho and reactance type relay. Making projects based on IDMT, Impedance, mho, reactance & location of faults is mandatory in this lab.
