Have you ever paid attention to how things made of different materials stay connected to each other? Most of us tend to ignore the importance of adhesives. Adhesives can be defined as the substances that are being used to prevent the separation of two (or more) other materials.

Adhesives are often chosen over other binding techniques such as - sewing or thermal bonding. They are used widely because of their efficient properties, such as - cost-effectiveness, flexibility in design, aesthetic design, etc. Adhesives can be produced either naturally or synthetically. They are organized by the method of adhesion and then organized into reactive and non-reactive adhesives.

Adhesives are used in nearly all industries, such as - electronics, transportation, packaging, etc. Now, we will discuss electronic adhesives. They play a major role in the manufacturing and production of a comprehensive array of electronics. The best qualities of adhesives are being trustworthy and not negatively affecting the performance of the electrical operations and mechanisms. Different types of electronic products require different types of electronic adhesives. Before buying these adhesives, a few points should be considered:

  1. Before buying the electronic adhesives, the customer should always read the reviews of the adhesives. The company’s objective should be lowering the cost of the product and increasing the effectiveness.
  2. You should buy an adhesive from a trusted supplier who gives a warranty on the products they sell.

Now, we will discuss packaging adhesives. Packaging can be defined as enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use. The process of packaging requires packing adhesives. There are three major types of adhesives that are used in packaging:

  1. Water Based
  2. Hot melt
  3. Solvent based

Water based solvent are made naturally from polymers extracted from vegetable sources, such as - dextrins, starches, etc. protein sources - casein, fish, soybean, milk albumen and animal (hidden bones). They are used in bonding, gummed adhesive strips, wallpaper paste, bottle labeling, and moisture activated bonding.

Hot melt is also known as hot melt glue, which is a form of thermoplastic adhesive commonly stored as solid cylindrical sticks of various diameters. They are mainly used for box sealing, bottle labeling, straw attachment, manufacturing of paper bag, bags assembly, etc.

The performance of solvent-based adhesives is determined by the polymer system that is used in the formulation. The choice of adhesives is dependent on the substrates and environmental resistance that is required.

Hence, it is clear that adhesives play a major role in our life.
