Kanchipuram, sometimes called Kanjeevaram or Kanchi, is a small town in Tamil Nadu. Modern Kanchipuram is a major weaving centre and visitors will be able to buy hand woven cotton and silk sarees at wholesale rates.

Kanchipuram is situated close to Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, India. It is famous for its Kanchipuram or Kanjeevaram Sarees.

It holds its own place as a popular variety of saree. Typical motifs are sun, moon, peacock, swan, lion and mango. Themes like jasmine flowers scattered between boundaries, parallel lines running across or temple structures are also popular.
