Varieties of Mango

Mangoes are juicy stone fruit (drupe) from numerous species of tropical trees belonging to the flowering plant genus Mangifera, cultivated mostly for their edible fruit. The majority of these species are found in nature as wild mangoes. The genus belongs to the cashew family Anacardiaceae. Mangoes are native to South Asia, the "common mango" or "Indian mango", Mangifera indica, has been distributed worldwide to become one of the most widely cultivated fruits in the tropics. Badami:
Badami is Karnataka’s leading mango variety. It is often called as Karnataka’s own Alphonso. The reason being the taste and texture of Badami is sane as that of Alphonso. The season of Badami is from April to June.
Chaunsa:
Chaunsa is one the sweetest mangoes grown in North India, It has medium oblong and has a golden yellow colour with a red blush. It mainly produced in Mirpur Khas Sindh in Punjab of Pakistan.
Dasheri:
Dasheri Mango is grown in various regions of North India, Nepal and Pakistan. The mango first appeared in the gardens of the Nawab of Lucknow in the 18th century. The mango is available from May end when the season of Alphonso gets over. It is a highly popular variety of Mango because of its sweet taste. Dasheri is even exported in South East Asian countries including Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and The Philippines.
Kesar:
Delicious Kesar mango is the pride of Gujarat. Talala, Vanthali, Keshod, Kodinar Mangrol and Una talukas in Junagadh district and Dhari, Rajula, Jaffrabadabd Khambha in Amreli are the major Kesar producing areas. Kesar usually arrives in the market in the last week of April.
Langra:
Langra is the prominent variety of mango and one of the most superior varieties of Mango from the Northern Indian sub-continent. Langra mangoes are originally from near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Mulgoba:
Mulgoba is one of the best mango cultivar grown in Tamil Nadu state and other parts of South India, Mulgoba is known as the "Alphonso of South India.
Neelam:
Neelam is grown in almost all parts of India. However, the best variety of Neelam comes from the state of Andhra Pradesh. Though Neelam arrives quite early in the season, the best variety of this mango is available only from mid-June.
Raspuri:
Raspuri are oval shape mango with excellent flavour and juicy in texture, considered as the Queen of Mangoes in India. Peddarasalu or Rasapuri as known in Karnataka.
