Types Of Trailers Used By Industry

Machine – A very common word that people come across almost every day, and which ranges from a small screw-driver to a heavy industrial equipment. Simplistically, a machine is anything that reduces human effort and makes life easier. The trailer in context is an unpowered vehicle pulled by a powered vehicle. One example that should help visualizing a trailer for a lay man is - the towing vehicle (trailer) that tows our vehicles from a prohibited parking spot! Ouch!

Wonder what helps build all the skyscrapers? All the flyovers? How do all the glittery cars come from the production line to the showrooms? How are the big sewer pipes transported? Trailer is a simple answer to these complex questions. They are categorized depending upon their application. Delving into the details, there are three main categories of trailers –

Utility Trailers –

As the name suggests, utility trailers are tailor-made for personal (or small business) use. The best cited example is the pickup truck or van which helps with the tedious task of moving and shifting goods, be it household regulars or small-scale business products. Even though utility trailers can be mightily helpful under moving and packing situations – they cannot be used for heavy duty applications.

Flatbed Trailers –

These trailers have an entirely flat, level 'bed' body with no sides or roof. This facilitates quick and easy loading of bulky goods without much hustle. Hence, flatbed trailers are best suited for transporting products like timber logs or complex construction equipments, which cannot be transported in a closed vehicle.

Heavy Equipment Trailers –

These trailers are heavy-duty commercial vehicles, and are the backbone of the million-dollar core mechanical and civil industries. Of course such industries do not spare any expense purchasing these because without them, they would be making snow cones in the best possible case. Heavy equipment trailers find their application in transporting large scale industrial products or military equipments and vehicles such as tanks, missiles etc. Heavy equipment trailers are indispensable in defense for transporting, deploying and evacuating tanks, armored personnel carriers, self-propelled artillery, armored bulldozers and other heavy vehicles.

Individually, each of the three trailers mentioned above cover three different applications, but together these three in conjunction, address almost all the transportation needs, covering different fields and different levels. One covers the cons of the other, thus helping them grow their tentacles and simultaneously be the impetus for their country’s social, infrastructural and economic growth.

Concluding, trailers not only make the life easier but also help to make the present better and future brighter. So hopefully, next time when a common observer crosses a bridge or sees a skyscraper or visits a car showroom, basically avails any of the infrastructure facility, he would definitely remember and appreciate this useful invention named trailers - a machine much used, lesser known!
