Elements of Landscape Design for Beginners
Posted: Aug 28, 2017
If you have never tackled a landscape design before, you will be surprised by the options and choices you have. However, it is best to go with the same principles as your interior for your outdoor design to keep a balance and make your house look aligned.
Focus on UnityUnity has to be one of the main goals of any design. It can also be understood and applied as consistency and repetition. Repetition helps create unity by repeating elements like plans or décor throughout the landscape. Consistency helps create unity in the sense that some or all of the different elements within the landscape fit together in order to create a whole.
Keep it SimpleSimplicity is one of the basic principles in design and art. As a beginner, simplicity is one of the best guidelines to follow. In terms of landscape design, simplicity would mean picking up two or three colors and repeating them throughout the garden or landscape. The décor may be kept to a minimum and a specific theme may be followed.
BalanceBalance in landscape design refers to a sense of equality. You can either go for symmetrical balance or asymmetrical balance. Symmetrical balance is when the elements of your landscape are equally spaced, the garden is equally divided, and all the plant groupings share the same shape. Basically your landscape follows a similar theme throughout which can be very catchy to the eye. On the other hand, asymmetrical balance is a little more complex. This form of balance in the landscape may have separate or different themes each having an equal but different type of attraction. This can be abstract or free form while still creating unity and balance through the repetition of some elements.
ProportionProportion is the size of the elements in relation to each other. You would not want the elements of your landscape to be out of proportion as it will dent the overall look of your space. There are many elements that can be intentionally designed with proportion being kept in mind.
ColorColor is an element that adds dimension of real life and interest to the Landscape Brookhaven GA Bright and vibrant colors like red, orange, and yellow can actually make objects seem closer to you, while cooler colors like green and blue can make objects seem further from you. Grey, white and black are neutral colors which are best for the background with the brighter colors being used in the foreground. Colors can be effectively used to direct attention to a specific area of the garden, and a bright display in a cool background will naturally catch the eye.
